The artist has long admired the theme of paintings titled “Death of the Buddha”. He wanted to create a piece that celebrated the Buddha’s enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. The artist chose to put the Buddha in the arms of the Bodhi tree while resting on the mother/goddess’ shoulders.
The landscape is rich with devotees and creatures who have come to share in the glory of the Buddha’s sublime revelation.
