This piece began with the first reports of the COVID-19 pandemic and the reported death counts. The title of the piece came from the opposing attitudes of either ignoring or accepting the social/political/health care threat. The composition calls to mind a theater with the action taking center stage. The yawning, open-mouthed, devouring beast is the reality of death we all face. The border’s four cardinal points are taken from a painting of a Black Plague victim representing the four elements.
